“I like to be a free spirit. Some don’t like that, but that’s the way I am.” -Diana, Princess of Wales
In August of 1997, Princess Diana of Wales was returning from a night out in Paris with her lover Dodi Al-Fayed when the two, along with the driver Henri Paul, died in a car accident. The accident was blamed on the driver’s intoxication, however, many blame the aggressive pursuit of the paparazzi on the event.
Others say the accident wasn’t an accident at all. It was not a secret that the Royal Family was not a fan of Princess Diana and the public had mixed opinions on her. This leads to suspicions regarding government involvement, especially considering the strange circumstances that lead to Henri Paul being the driver.
Additionally, the paparazzi involvement has been questioned as the car took an unfamiliar route and utilized a decoy car in hopes of avoiding the paparazzi. Some have even speculated that Dodi Al-Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al-Fayed, played a role in the death of the couple.
It is unclear how the accident happened and what the true cause was. This has lead to speculation and conspiracies surrounding the Princess’ death. In this episode, Kelly discusses Diana’s background, the incidents leading up to the event, and some of the most popular theories.
